New York City FC debutó en casa en la temporada 2026 con una actuación contundente al golear 5-0 a Orlando City SC ante más de 25 mil aficionados en el Yankee Stadium. El equipo dirigido por Pascal Jansen mostró solidez en todas sus líneas y ratificó que tiene un plantel compacto y prometedor para esta temporada.

Desde los primeros minutos los Celestes dejaron claro que buscaban el protagonismo. Con posesión y presión alta generaron las primeras aproximaciones frente al arco rival, aunque Nicolás Fernández Mercau y Maxi Moralez no lograron concretar por falta de precisión en los disparos iniciales.

El partido cambió drásticamente alrededor del minuto 15, cuando el portero de Orlando Maxime Crépeau fue expulsado tras tocar el balón con la mano fuera del área. La jugada pareció más producto de un reflejo que de una acción deliberada, pero dejó al equipo visitante con diez hombres y abrió el camino para el dominio absoluto del NYCFC.

Con superioridad numérica, el conjunto neoyorquino intensificó su presión ofensiva y encontró la apertura del marcador a los 21 minutos. Agustín Ojeda aprovechó un excelente pase de Maxi Moralez y conectó una volea que superó a la defensa y al arquero sustituto Javier Otero, enviando el balón al fondo de la red para el 1-0.

Tras el primer gol, NYCFC mantuvo el control del juego con circulación constante del balón y presión en campo rival. Orlando intentó reaccionar, pero la defensa local respondió con intervenciones oportunas que neutralizaron cualquier intento ofensivo.

El segundo gol llegó justo antes del descanso. A los 42 minutos, nuevamente Maxi Moralez fue protagonista con un centro preciso al área que Nicolás Fernández Mercau convirtió de cabeza para el 2-0.

La noche se complicó aún más para Orlando en el tiempo agregado de la primera mitad. Fernández Mercau fue derribado dentro del área y el árbitro señaló penal. Maxi Moralez ejecutó con calma desde los once pasos y marcó el 3-0 al 45+7’, resultado con el que ambos equipos se fueron al descanso.

En el inicio del segundo tiempo, la sensación en el borde del campo —entre reporteros y fotógrafos— era que la goleada podía ampliarse. Y así ocurrió.

A los 49 minutos, Keaton Parks anotó el cuarto gol tras recibir un pase de Tayvon Gray y definir con precisión entre las piernas del arquero. Apenas cinco minutos después, al 54’, el propio Parks interceptó un despeje defensivo y definió con un remate colocado para firmar el 5-0 definitivo.

Con el marcador resuelto, el técnico Pascal Jansen comenzó a rotar su plantilla y dar minutos a otros jugadores, mientras el público celebraba una tarde perfecta de fútbol en el Bronx.

NYCFC dominate Orlando City with a 5-0 victory at Yankee Stadium

New York City FC marked their first home game of the 2026 season with a dominant 5–0 victory over Orlando City SC at Yankee Stadium in front of more than 25,000 fans. Pascal Jansen’s side delivered an impressive performance, showing a well-organized and promising team early in the MLS campaign.

The home side started aggressively, pushing forward from the opening minutes and creating early chances. Nicolás Fernández Mercau and Maxi Moralez both had opportunities in front of goal, but their shots lacked the precision needed to open the scoring.

The match took a dramatic turn around the 15th minute when Orlando City goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau was sent off for handling the ball outside the penalty area. The play appeared more instinctive than intentional, but it left the visitors with ten men and gave NYCFC a clear advantage.

With the numerical superiority, the Boys in Blue intensified their attack and eventually found the breakthrough in the 21st minute. Agustín Ojeda received a precise pass from Maxi Moralez and struck a volley that bounced past the defenders and substitute goalkeeper Javier Otero to make it 1–0.

After taking the lead, NYCFC maintained control of possession and continued pressing high up the field. Orlando attempted to respond, but New York’s defense made several well-timed interventions to neutralize the visitors’ attacks.

The second goal arrived shortly before halftime. In the 42nd minute, Maxi Moralez delivered another dangerous ball into the box and Nicolás Fernández Mercau met it with a powerful header that beat Otero to double the lead.

Orlando’s difficult afternoon worsened in stoppage time of the first half when Fernández Mercau was fouled inside the penalty area. Moralez calmly converted the penalty in the 45+7 minute, sending the ball into the bottom corner and giving NYCFC a comfortable 3–0 lead at halftime.

The second half began with the same attacking intensity from the hosts. Just four minutes after the restart, Keaton Parks scored the fourth goal after connecting with a low cross from Tayvon Gray and finishing through the goalkeeper’s legs.

Parks struck again in the 54th minute after intercepting a defensive clearance and placing the ball into the bottom-right corner to complete the 5–0 victory.

With the result secured, head coach Pascal Jansen rotated the squad and gave playing time to several substitutes while the crowd celebrated an emphatic performance from the home team.

Keaton Parks was named Player of the Match after scoring twice and playing a key role in controlling the midfield throughout the game.
