En una noche cargada de ruido, emoción y sentimiento vikingo, Noruega derrotó 3-2 a Senegal en el MetLife Stadium, en un partido vibrante por el Grupo I de la Copa Mundial de la FIFA 2026. Desde el borde de la cancha, el encuentro se sintió intenso desde el primer minuto, no solo por lo que ocurría con el balón, sino también por el ambiente que bajaba desde las tribunas, donde la hinchada noruega convirtió gran parte del estadio en una fiesta de color, cánticos y celebración.

El inicio del partido tuvo transiciones lentas y un Senegal que parecía manejar mejor la posesión del balón. El equipo africano intentó construir con paciencia, tocar desde atrás y controlar los tiempos del encuentro. Sin embargo, con el pasar de los minutos, dio la impresión de que Noruega aceptaba ese dominio territorial como parte de su plan. El conjunto europeo esperó con orden, dejó que Senegal ganara confianza y buscó castigar en los espacios con ataques rápidos, directos y muy peligrosos.

Esa estrategia terminó siendo determinante. Aunque Senegal tuvo más posesión en varios momentos del primer tiempo, Noruega fue el equipo que generó las ocasiones más claras. Aunque la reacción llegó tarde, el equipo africano nunca bajó los brazos. Peleó hasta la última jugada, empujó con garra y mostró sacrificio colectivo. Desde mi posición, cerca del córner, se podía sentir que Senegal todavía creía en el empate, incluso cuando el cansancio y el marcador parecían jugar en su contra.

Noruega fue un justo ganador porque supo leer mejor el partido, fue más efectivo y golpeó en los momentos precisos. Pero Senegal también merece reconocimiento por su entrega y por mantener viva la esperanza hasta el final. Con este resultado, Noruega aseguró su clasificación y ahora enfrentará a Francia con la posibilidad de pelear el primer lugar del grupo. Será una misión exigente, porque Francia, liderada por Kylian Mbappé, también ha mostrado argumentos para llegar lejos en este Mundial.

Uno de los momentos más simbólicos de la noche llegó después del pitazo final. Los jugadores noruegos celebraron junto a su hinchada, se sentaron sobre el césped y simularon remar como si estuvieran en una barcaza vikinga. Fue una imagen poderosa, emotiva y muy fotográfica. Esa conexión entre el equipo y sus aficionados le dio al partido una identidad especial, como si Noruega no solo hubiera ganado tres puntos, sino también una noche completa de pertenencia, orgullo y celebración.

En lo personal, este partido también me dejó una nueva experiencia dentro de mi primer Mundial como reportero gráfico. Antes y después de los partidos suelo realizar pequeños videos, de máximo un minuto, únicamente para compartir momentos breves del ambiente con mis seguidores en redes sociales. No son transmisiones en vivo ni buscan interferir con el trabajo oficial del evento; son pequeños registros personales del contexto, la emoción y la atmósfera que se vive alrededor del partido.

En esta ocasión, cuando Noruega estaba por salir a su calentamiento previo, tuve un pequeño incidente relacionado con ese momento. Para evitar cualquier confusión o situación innecesaria, preferí guardar el celular y continuar mi trabajo con la cámara fotográfica, como corresponde a mi función acreditada. Lo tomo de buena manera, como una anécdota más de aprendizaje dentro de la Copa del Mundo. Cada experiencia, incluso las inesperadas, enriquece mi camino como photojournalist y me deja recuerdos que formarán parte de esta etapa tan especial de mi carrera.

Al final, me quedo satisfecho y agradecido por haber podido captar la esencia de una noche intensa: la fuerza de Haaland, la garra de Senegal, la alegría de los hinchas noruegos y la emoción única de estar al borde de la cancha contando, con imágenes y palabras, lo que se vive en un Mundial.

On a night filled with noise, emotion and a strong Viking spirit, Norway defeated Senegal 3-2 at MetLife Stadium in a thrilling Group I match of the FIFA World Cup 2026. From the edge of the field, near the corner, the game felt intense from the opening minutes, not only because of what was happening with the ball, but also because of the energy coming from the stands, where Norwegian fans turned the stadium into a celebration of color, chants and national pride.

The match started with slow transitions and a Senegal side that appeared to have better control of possession. The African team tried to build patiently, move the ball from the back and manage the rhythm of the game. However, as the minutes passed, it seemed that Norway was allowing that possession as part of its own plan. The European side stayed organized, let Senegal gain confidence, and then looked to punish the open spaces with fast, direct and dangerous attacks.

That approach became decisive. Although Senegal had more of the ball during several stretches of the first half, Norway created the clearest chances. Every Norwegian attack carried a real sense of danger, especially when the ball found Martin Ødegaard, Erling Haaland or the players arriving from wide areas. Just before halftime, Holmgren Pedersen took advantage of a key opportunity and scored in the 43rd minute, opening the path for Norway’s victory.

In the second half, Norway came out with greater authority and quickly imposed its power. Erling Haaland scored in the 48th minute and again in the 58th, confirming his enormous influence on the match. The Norwegian striker was, without question, the best player on the field. His presence alone created fear, disorder and concern in Senegal’s defensive line. Every time he moved near the box, he looked like a striker hungry for goals, ready to attack any space and punish the slightest mistake.

Senegal, however, responded with pride. Ismaïla Sarr pulled one back in the 53rd minute and scored again in stoppage time, at 90+3, adding drama to the final moments. Although the reaction came late, the African side never gave up. Senegal fought until the last play, pushed with heart and showed collective sacrifice. From my position near the corner, it was clear that Senegal still believed in the equalizer, even when fatigue and the scoreboard seemed to be against them.

Norway was a deserving winner because it read the match better, was more effective and struck at the decisive moments. But Senegal also deserves recognition for its effort, pride and determination to keep the game alive until the end. With this result, Norway secured its place in the next round and will now face France with the possibility of fighting for the top spot in the group. It will be a demanding challenge, especially against a French team led by Kylian Mbappé and showing the quality of a side capable of reaching the final stages of the tournament.

One of the most symbolic moments of the night came after the final whistle. The Norwegian players celebrated with their fans, sat on the grass and began to simulate rowing as if they were inside a Viking boat. It was a powerful, emotional and very photographic scene. That connection between the team and its supporters gave the match a special identity, as if Norway had not only won three points, but also created a night of belonging, pride and celebration.

Personally, this match also gave me another memorable experience during my first World Cup as a credentialed photojournalist. Before and after matches, I usually record very short videos, no longer than one minute, only to share brief moments of the atmosphere with my followers on social media. They are not live broadcasts, and they are not intended to interfere with the official work of the event. They are simply small personal records of the context, emotion and energy surrounding the match.

On this occasion, when Norway was about to come out for its pre-match warmup, I had a small incident related to that moment. To avoid any confusion or unnecessary situation, I decided to put my phone away and continue working with my photo camera, as corresponds to my accredited role. I take it in a positive way, as one more anecdote and learning experience from the World Cup. Every moment, even the unexpected ones, adds to my journey as a photojournalist and becomes part of the memories I will carry from covering my first World Cup.

In the end, I left the stadium satisfied and grateful for the opportunity to capture the essence of an intense night: Haaland’s power, Senegal’s fighting spirit, the joy of the Norwegian fans and the unique emotion of standing at field level, telling the story of a World Cup match through images and words.
